Interesting. I guess its important to have guys your comfortable with, that have your back. I'm glad to see the past regime (except for Nolan)gone and I hope they all posess a more agressive outlook. If you don't take chances you can never acomplish greatness.

Seems like a good move to me. The last time a Dolphin HC chose coordinators he had a history with was Jimmy Johnson.

Wanny just kept JJ's hires. Saban picked big name guys. Cam kept Saban's DC and didn't even hire an OC. Sparano had those guys chosen for him (by Parcells). None of those guys was fully in control of their staff, it seemed. Looks like, hopefully, that will be different with Philbin.

Both guys have impressive resumes, and have been there, done that in the NFL.
I like the hires a lot. These guys bring instant credibility, and will get the players attention before camp even starts.
Sherman also brings with him some pretty extensive knowledge of the college players he coached and played against. That could be helpful going into the draft.

I just hope we bring in some aggressive, bright youth underneath the big 3 (HC, OC and DC). Hopefully Cole and Sherman have some fresh meat in the basket to bring to the picnic.

No more stale pizza!

I'm kind of disappointed all around. I liked what we had in Mike Nolan and I'm especially disappointed to see Daboll get fired. I can't remember as a Dolphins fan, liking the offensive play-calling as much as I did this year, out of the past 6-7 years. Despite our losing record, I never really thought the offense was the problem. I especially liked that Daboll started throwing the ball deep early and often during games, and especially so during the last half of the season.

These guys all seem to have experience, I just hope we didn't dump a creative, up-and-coming star OC in Daboll, and a very solid still young DC in Nolan, in favor of two older guys who are friends with the new coach (Coyle not being that old however).

Coyle leap-frogging to a position he's never held before and doing so from a secondary coach post on a mediocre defense is a bit of a head scratcher.

As for Sherman, I guess we'll see. Same for Philbin, I guess we'll see.

You were really that impressed with Daboll and Nolan?!
Both of these guys had equal share in our 6-10 season.
You are what your record says you are.
Daboll's red-zone O was pathtic, and Nolan's D caved way too many times in critical situations, especially in the 2nd halves.

As far as Coyle goes, I don't think going from a seasoned secondary
coach to DC is that far of a stretch. i think it's a perspective this D sorely needs.

No. Daboll relied heavilly on the smoke and mirrors approach, passing the ball on the 1 , missing do it again , missing and doing it again expecting the defense to be surprised. His Red Zone was beyond sad.

To be fair there was a long hold out , and no spring training to get to know the players and he seemed to get better down the stretch (or after Henne went on IR).

But he was not a really great offensive mind IMO. No loss.

We are a better team as we sit today, no doubt. thumbs up

If anybody doesnt think that Sherman is an upgrade over Daboll, then they dont know football.

I liked Daboll, Sherman has had up and down years in wins and losses, but his offense's consisently put up big numbers... Sherman is not defintely a downgrade... But Daboll, had a unique approach, how could u not like what he did with Moore and Bush....I am excited to see what SHerman and Philbin bring to the offense...

I agree, it took a while for Daboll to find the basic keys, but all in all, he did a fair job IMO. He's young and should have a pretty good future in the league...

It will be interesting (and somewhat telling) to see how long it takes for another organization to pick him up?

If he displaces an existing OC then he must be viewed pretty positively. If he hangs around on the street for a while then the verdict is mixed...

Also, and I seriously doubt this happening, would he join the staff as QB coach? Not sure that would work, but...

A and O I thought you said Mike Sherman sucked? Or was that just as a HC?

I think a very big hire is the QB coach. We need someone who actually knows the position, not a WR coach like last year.

I think Aqua was referring to Mike Sherman as a candidate for head coach in that post.

I'm happy with the assembled staff. Sherman brings playcalling experience and Coyle is a well respected, younger, and hungry new coordinator. If we can add a mix of experienced and young position coaches then I think we have a good staff. I'm not too worried about QB coach since Philbin and Sherman are already pretty good at developing QBs. Plus Sherman will bring great insight into Tannehill, who is quickly rising into the first round, and Philbin obviously has insight into the potential of Matt Flynn.

I hope Sherman won't be calling the plays. Check out how many big leads A&M had this year only to go conservative and lose in the second half. They were leading my Razorbacks HUGE and Sherman's conservative play calling got us back in it for the win. His bad play calling was the talk around here for over a week. I watched him take a pretty talented A&M team and go downhill but I realize college and pro are two different animals.

sherman is definitely calling the plays. philbin's never done it before and he said he won't this year either. which makes sense

I was ok with the HC hire but am disappointed with the coordinators. Sherman is ok but the DC is far from having an impressive resume.

I guess we will see. The Offense is only going as far as the QB takes it and the defense could take a huge step back. Learning an entire new defense with a rookie coordinator is a huge question mark.

I'm not thrilled or even excited to see what's coming. Been down this road too many times.

The only saving grace is if Flynn is indeed a franchise QB and we can get him.

Defense has talent but Nolan was able to build some chemistry with a successful scheme. Now we may lose Soliai and/or Langford.
