he is 48 years old, and has experienced success and failure. KNows what the job entails and probably has a better perspective after a couple years in the booth watching other coaches.
Cowher...i think is very good too; however, my issue with Bill is that Pittsburgh has always drafted well, has always had great depth in their roster...so...how much was it Bill and how much was it the organization?
I'm not saying Gruden is better at drafting...I'm not sure if he had the juice in Tampa, but as a coach? I like his style.
My question, would Cowher or Gruden hire a GM, or would they play dual roles. I don't like the idea of dual roles, but I have no issue with the coach having the final say on personnel decisions.
As long as that coach isn't stupid enough to pass on drafting a top prospect QB, I don't care who it would be at this point in time as long as this current regime is douched.
Yeah I don't know. Cowher was hired in Pittsburgh in 92, but in 2000 they hired Kevin Colbert who essentially was the de facto GM although no-one had that title. So would Bill have won the Superbowls if he was the GM?
I think the HC needs to have considerable say in the draft and free agency...but, I'm not sure that it is wise to have the dual role.

I'm not sure where you get that. Fisher's teams were consistently low on penalties and highly disciplined. Vince Young certainly didn't think Fisher was a players coach.
I am personally not a fan of popularity contests. To be honest it took cowher what 17 years to finally win a championship and gruden what has he done? It was tony dungey that took a pathetic team from 30 years of being a laughing stock to being a team people didnt want to play. Gruden just came in at a good time an won a championship cause they already had a beast defense and needed the offensive mind to put it all together. Gruden has no loyalty and will jump ship with us as well.
However I think this team has alot of potential on the defense if the right coordinator took over and the reason I would go with gruden of the choices is cause we need an offensive coach and i love how he scrunches up his face and the way he talks lol...

Exactly the reason he wants another chance. Gruden is experienced and has the Eye of the Tiger. And he doesn't need a case of depends like most of the other available coaches. At 48 he can handle the load for a good decade.
All of them would likely be dramatic improvements over what we have. Of the three, I probably like Cowher the least. If he has the right defensive mind on the other side of the ball and doesn't meddle, I think I like Chuckie best. I think he's the highest risk/reward guy of the three. I want an offensive mind with the 'wasta' to lead the team. Chuckie grew up developing QBs and - I guess I disagree with the notion that he treats them as stepchildren - he has been able to get the most out of QBs on his team. He just hasn't had much to work with - Gannon in OAK was playing way above his capabilities sans Chuckie, and Brad Johnson in Tampa was the same but not quite as good as Gannon. Chuck + Luck would be a great combination, IMO.

#1: It needs to be someone who can mesh with the HC. So, I'm in favor of hiring a HC and letting him be part of the decision on the GM. I'm not sure who would work best with Gruden, Cowher, or Fisher.
Anybody but Andy Reid. Please, anyone but Andy Reid. You want to talk about coaches who have managed to get great production out of crappy QBs? There's your guy. Unfortunately, he's also got all of the same flaws as Tony Sparano when it comes to game management. Can't manage his timeouts, can't manage the clock, doesn't make adjustments during the game, sticks with stuff when it's clearly not working, etc.
We as a fan base can't lambast our team for not getting a decent QB for the years from 2002/2008 and then turn around and give Chuckie a pass because "no-one was available"
And something we'll never know is, was Gruden telling McKay "I can get by with these slugs" or was he handcuffed? Journeymen QB's seem to follow this guy, is that by design or bad luck???????

Honestly, the only time recently I can think of where we passed on a QB that was available to us (without trading up), was clearly better than anyone we had, and didn't have major red flags (like Mallet) was Drew Brees.
Say what you want about Reid but he's had Philly in the playoffs nine times in thirteen seasons. He's also been in the championship game five of those years with one trip to the superbowl.
That's Shulaesque consistency.
NONE of us would be complaining about our team performing in a similar fashion...
