in truth the QB bust rate is high, but think positive and look at these guys..

Indy's P.Manning in 98
the Oilers McNair in 95
Philly Mcnabb & Minny's Culpepper in 99
Atlanta's Vick in 01
Roethlisberger & Rivers in 04

Culpepper was a product of the system and team around him in Minny. That was proven when he left the team. Vick was good in '01, but he couldn't win the big one. I have trouble seeing either of these guys on that list.

If you take off Rivers then you're left with Superbowl QBs only, and you might-as-well include Eli Manning.

first, brady was drafted in the 6th, not 5th.
second, is your point that we should seek our franchise QB in the later rounds? if so you haven't been paying attention, to the league and especially this team. There are people who became millionaires by winning the lottery but I wouldn't want to make that my business model

Agreed but why not go with the odds and draft the #1 prospect coming out of college. If we have a chance that is.

> Besides, one injury and its over.

That goes for anybody..........I know if we get the number one pick and draft luck then offer him a multimillion dollar deal and he gets injured or is a bust we are screwed for a long time...

But...

We have been screwed for over 10 years anyways.

PS. I think its time to take a chance for once.

Ghotirule,

Every now and then you can shoot a crow in the dark. The Brady and Fitzpatrick pics are very, very few and far in-between in this league.

But, most (again, I say most) of the all-time greats were high draft picks.

Yeah, A & O, so explain the tremendous amount of first round QB misses since you pointed out how rare the late round QB hits come.

If we split the baby, that means that the round in which you pick the QB is really not indicative of success at all.

Which really would make sense because predicting what a player will do in the Pros from College is witchcraft at best.

That means, to me, you should draft for need, not for position.

someone at some point posted something about the odds of drafting a great QB in the 1st round as opposed to other rounds and it's not even close. if the bust rate of QBs in the first is 50-50 (and I think it's probably more like only 40% bust), and the "bust" rate of taking a QB in the 2d or later (I use quotes b/c lower rounds picks don't really bust, if they turn out great that's deemed a lucky bonus) is 15% become great, then you roll the dice in the first and take the 50-50 shot. it's really not rocket science

Well Chad Henne is ranked 20th. That right there proves we need an upgrade, so...I guess we are in the same boat then.

the point is luck is by all accounts head and shoulders about any QB to come out in more than a decade. to get him we need to pick him #1 overall. none of this other stuff even matters

This is the dumbest thread I have wasted my time reading.

What the heck does most of the dialog have to do with the topic at hand.

Anyways Luck will be a franchise QB. Stop whinning about it, and accept that he is what he is and his senior season will help him be even more polished.

Yes you have a better chance of finding Mr right in the first round, however it can happen anywhere in the draft.

So stop arguing the same damn point which everyone already understands. Jesus man Here have a drink on me.smileys with beer

The college arena is no comparison to the fast paced elite world of the NFL. Alot of these so called badass college QB's are allowed to flourish in the college world since they are surrounded by average to above average players///////so basically they look like great players. Bring them to the NFL and the real test is done.

I know talent is talent youre right, but more often than not college qb's just dont play up th their expectations.
