Stopping the run, and keeping the middle of the field occupied, the main loss this offseason from the starting defense was Crowder, the smartest defnsive player on our team who calls the plays and stops the run and middle of the field.... That is where we got exploited... SO if I am Ireland or Sparano, I am signing Channing Crowder and cutting somebody...
If you dont realize we failed worse then ever at the MLB position last night, I am not sure what to tell you.. We signed Burnett so he could run and cover, he couldnt do that last night or stop the run and underneath stuff. Crowder stopped the run and underneath stuff, we currently dont have a player at the MLB position that can do what Crowder could do for us...
Crowder is a top 5 run stopping MLB when healthy. He is probably ranked around 45th in covering in the seems but top 20 underneath.. So we got eaten up underneath and runs, which is where Crowder excels. I am not saying Crowder doesnt have his flaws, he does, but we couldnt stop the underneath and run, and we tried. If you cant do that, you get worked.. IMO Crowder could have stopped it... He is better then Dansby and Burnett at run stopping and reading plays... Dansby and Burnett are suppose to be better all around MLB's then Crowder and i would agree, but last night they were not... They were bad

Sorry, but Crowder was an average to below average LB his entire career. No instincts for big plays. Always either late to the action against the run, or over-pursues. And a huge liability in coverage.
In cae you didn't notice NE was running the hurry up offense. They threw the ball 48 times and only ran it 22 times.
Had Crowder been stuck in the game not being able to get shuffled out for the nickel Brady would have probably thrown for 600 yards.
The ENTIRE defense stunk and couldn't tackle to save their life. Look at the missed tackle on Welkers 99 yard td. That was Sapp I believe. Jones got caught looking in the backfield on the other td.
Seems to me the entire defense got caught up thinking they were better than they are. They believed the hype and were not prepared.
Anyone see Wake get man handled by a rookie RT?
Crwoder wouldn't have made one bit of difference in that fiasco. He has been involved in too many of his own.

dude crowder takes the worst angles for a professional middle linbacker. and what makes it worst is he studied under a great in zach thomas for what like 5 years!!! that is unacceptable. He couldnt tackle a tackling dumby... and they dont move!!!! lol
you need to forget about him and change your name, sorry man just being real
You guys are just dillusional if you think last night showed Burnett being an upgrade on Crowder at MLB... Dansby looked worse and Burnett surely did not look like the upgrade he did in preseason...
The defense couldnt get lined up properly to save their lives, Guess who normally got the defense lined up last year? There is only one major difference or one player difference from last years tough defense and that is Channing Crowder, like it or not and that guy was the MIC LBer.... At the time and I still think Burnett was upgrade on Crowder, but last night we missed leadership on defense, someone to take control, and like it or not that and those were Crowders strong points, as you guys pointed out he was student of the game under Zach..

Crowder would not have been on the field for most of the night, so he definitely was not missed. Crowder was always the first LB taken off the field in the nickel package. He has no pass rush ability and no coverage ability, so he rarely ever played in the nickel package. Against the Pats, they are in the nickel the entire game, so Crowder would have barely been in the game.
