I read this on some ESPN's reporters blog. He said "Henne Giving more freedom by be allowed to call audibles." Or something close to that what a novel and brilliant idea the QB and supposed leader of your team can change the play if he dosen't like the defensive alignment, and pick something else that might really work. How many times last year were we in a play, and the defense knew what was coming but we still had too run the play. How many of those ended up in disaster any one remember. I am so glad Henning is gone if Henne is going to fail, and I don't think he will. Give the man the chance to succeeed by changing plays, and really becoming the team leader. Will he ever become Peyton Manning doubtful. But can he become a good young QB that can continue to grow and get better, and isn't that what we want to see as fans really.
Im glad henning is gone as well. Finnally giving henne the liberty to call his own plays and change plays at the line line of squimmage can turn out to be a great move.
Maybe that was one of the reasons he used to struggle so much last year.
I saw him make some nice calls in the Tampa game, including one where he adjusted for a blitz and hit Fasano for a nice gain. Seriously, Henne looked like a different QB to me in the Tampa game. I've never seen him so animated! He's not a robot anymore!!

He just needs to be consistent. That one of the things i wish it would change. I think there is hope for henne. There is a huge upside nobody has seen yet.

According to Ricky Williams , All of it was. Called him a control freak. You can't handcuff the guy like that and expect him to perform well. No wonder Henne never showed any emotion. I wanna see him get pissed off some still. With all that pressure on him the other night he should have gotten after the Oline a bit.

You just reminder me of dan marino. He used to really get on the OL or anybody else when they let him down. I remember his face getting red like a tomato.

I'll give him time. That's part of being a leader. I like what I'm seeing so far!

Your not going to see that same level of emotion from Henne. Dan was just a different kind of personality. But, both Lydon Murtha and Daniel Thomas have said that Henne has got on them in the huddle when they've made mistakes this preseason.

That kind of Intensity rubs off on the entire Team. You need to call out players a bit in huddle that are not playing up to Spec. Dan used to grab'em by the face Mask. He left nothing for Shula to ream out, by the time he got to the sidelines he had heard enough.

If he gets on someone face whoever it is thats good enough for me. Shows he has some balls and desire to win.

Agreed.....i remember dan grabbing them by the facemask..
A fired up team could be the difference between a win and a loss.
Problem is you don't grab a player by the face mask unless you play like Dan Marino.
Henne still has to lead by example and show he can play first or he is just a hypocrite.
You have to earn their respect FIRST.
He has a way to go before he attempts that....get a few more come from behind wins...or just consistency and the leadership will come naturally.
I read an interesting article from Don Banks at CNNSI...I think...that talks about how Hennes career has been like a roller coaster...but...he is at his best when he is allowed to run the offense and air it out.
I understand everyone's points because this subject is very interesting as to why maybe Henne has struggled while other young QB's have not. Sanchez with the Jet's get to audibilize out of bad plays with the Jets. Maybe that is why he some would say has been more sucsessful to this point. To me Henne is smarter than Sanchez on the football field as in having played the position longer I am saying. So should he not have the freedom other QB's have to pick better plays. What bothered me last year especailly in the last 2 minutes of games was the piss poor play calling from Henning. How were supposed to win throwing screens with no timeouts to a running back, and needing a field goal to tie or win. I am not saying Henne will be phenomenal this year, but what I am saying is he can't be any worse than he was last year can he?

Pat Kirwan and Tim Ryan both said they were very glad to hear that they've given Henne this freedom to call audibles. Kirwan said that you have to give a young QB a chance to really run the offense before you can decide whether or not he has a future. Ryan agreed, saying there is nothing worse for a young QB than being stuck, forced to run a play that the defense is perfectly positioned to defend. Kirwan also pointed out that early in the season, this will be an advantage to Henne because teams have not charted his audible tendencies in the past.
